Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed his 2020/21 Champions League squad – with Sergio Romero, Marcos Rojo and Phil Jones failing to make the cut.
The Red Devils are back in Europe’s elite-level competition after a year’s absence, yet they have a fight on their hands to avoid dropping back into the Europa League.
Solskjaer’s side have been placed in a Group of Death alongside Paris St-Germain and RB Leipzig, as well as underdogs Istanbul Basaksehir.
A number of new signings have been included in their squad, nevertheless, with deadline-day recruit Edinson Cavani set to line up against former club PSG after making it into List A.
Left-back Alex Telles and young winger Facundo Pellistri, who also joined United on deadline day, have been included on the same list, as has £35million midfielder Donny van de Beek.
Dean Henderson is one of three goalkeepers selected by Solskjaer after returning from his loan spell at Sheffield United, along with David de Gea and Lee Grant.
There is no room for Sergio Romero, who is likely to have missed out because of Grant’s eligibility as a homegrown player.
Defensive outcasts Rojo and Jones have also been left out by Solskjaer, despite the former reportedly seeing a request to terminate his contract rejected by United chiefs amid interest from Turkey this summer.
The likes of Mason Greenwood and Brandon Williams have been placed on List B, which is made up of players aged 21 or younger with two years’ training at the club.
United’s opening Champions League fixture comes away at PSG on October 20, before they take on RB Leipzig in their first outing at Old Trafford eight days later.
