Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been urged to drop Paul Pogba – with the Manchester United boss warned that the midfielder is causing him "a problem".
Pogba gifted Arsenal a winner in Sunday's Premier League clash at Old Trafford, fouling Hector Bellerin to concede a penalty from which Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored the only goal.
The defeat means United have lost half of their first six league games this season – with all three reverses coming at Old Trafford as they flounder in 15th place in the table.
France star Pogba started the game in a midfield diamond with Fred, Scott McTominay and Bruno Fernandes, and was moved to the left later in the game as Solskjaer tried to find the right combination to overcome the Gunners.
Former Chelsea centre-back Frank Leboeuf reckons Solskjaer "doesn't know what to do" with his compatriot – and says the World Cup winner's best position for United at the moment could be on the bench.
United had beaten RB Leipzig 5-0 in their previous game in the Champions League, having also triumphed over Paris-Saint Germain the week before – but Leboeuf says their domestic performances have left much to be desired.
"I don’t know if there is any explanation [for United’s form],’ he told ESPN. "It was a random win against Leipzig and a lucky one.
"What we have seen in the Premier League is not good enough from Manchester United. The level drops dramatically.
"It was very strange to see that diamond midfield because Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wanted Pogba in the middle of the park where he is clearly a problem because he changed him in the second half, putting him on the left wing almost.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer made ‘huge substitute error’ in Man Utd’s defeat to Arsenal
"He doesn’t know what to do with Pogba. Solskjaer has to rethink his position. Maybe the best position for Pogba right now is the bench."
Lebeouf believes Pogba is too similar in style to Fernandes, saying of the Frenchman: "It seems to be a real problem.
"He’s causing problems in the middle of the park where he doesn’t defend. He’s like a double with [Bruno] Fernandes so it’s a real problem.
"You cannot count on him to defend and to even have a tactic. You have to let him be free and have tactics for the others players."
