Thiago Alcantara would reportedly want to become one of Liverpool’s highest earners if he was to join the Premier League champions this summer.
Bayern Munich star Thiago has been heavily linked with a transfer to Anfield as Jurgen Klopp looks to strengthen his options.
Manchester United are also believed to be keen on the former Barcelona star though Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has signed Donny van de Beek in the same position.
Financial issues may be a problem though with some clubs struggling amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
The Athletic claim Thiago, who turns 30 this season, would command wages of around £200,000 per week, making him one of the highest earners at Anfield.
Mohamed Salah is reportedly on over that figure while Virgil van Dijk’s salary is around similar figures.
Georginio Wijnaldum could leave Liverpool this summer with Barcelona keen and Stephen Warnock has urged Klopp to raise funds to sign Thiago.
Warnock said: “There's a lot of talk around Merseyside that Wijnaldum has to go for the deal to happen. I don't think that's necessarily the case.

“I think when you think of adding to that midfield position, Liverpool's midfield has to be dynamic every single game, they have to play at 100 per cent.

“I think it's something that Jurgen Klopp has looked at and decided that he needs to be able to rotate in that midfield position more often because of the amount of games that they had last year.
“They have to be able to maintain that at a higher level to retain the title this season. So in an ideal world for Jurgen Klopp, he buys Thiago and he also keeps Wijnaldum as well.”
