Thiago Alcantara is leaving the door open to a return to Barcelona in a blow to Liverpool ’s hopes of signing him.
Bayern Munich’s star midfielder looks likely to leave the Allianz Arena before the October 5 transfer deadline.
The 29-year-old only has one more year remaining on his contract, so Bayern won’t want to lose him on a free.
Liverpool are tracking Thiago ahead of a potential move, with a £27m price-tag having been put on him.
The Spain international is seen as a replacement for Georginio Wijnaldum, who is wanted by new Barcelona manager Ronald Koeman.
But the club could move for Thiago instead, and end Liverpool’s chances of even potentially landing him in January if they held off for the time being.
According to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo , Thiago would always keep the door open to Barcelona, and he would would listen to their proposal over a return.
Thiago rose up through the youth ranks at the Nou Camp, having joined them at the age of 14 before eventually leaving for Bayern in 2013, where he was reunited with Pep Guardiola.
An emotional return to Catalonia appears to still appeal to Thiago, although signing for Premier League champions Liverpool is clearly in his thinking too.

However, publicly Thiago is giving nothing away, maintaining he is happy at Bayern as long as he has a contract in Germany.
"I have not told anyone that I'm leaving," declared the playmaker on Saturday. “Every year you put me at a different club.
“For me, my future is tomorrow's game and there is nothing more to say. I neither care nor am I interested. What interests me is tomorrow."
It comes after Thiago had told ZDF on Thursday night: "Bayern is my home and I am happy to be there."
Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher, though, believes a switch will go through eventually.
“The only worry that might put Liverpool off is Thiago’s age – but I think the signing will still happen,” Carragher told the Mirror .
“Liverpool have a few players in the squad around 28 or 29 and that’s why the deal will have to be on their terms – maybe nearer £20m.
“I think a move will probably happen towards the end of the window.”
