Watford are in talks with Marseille over a deal to sell Pape Gueye before he has even played for the club.
Gueye, 21, agreed to join Watford as a free agent from Le Havre but changed his mind saying he had been badly advised.
Marseille have stepped in to solve the situation and will reach a compromise on compensation to Watford. Gueye’s signing could be confirmed on Wednesday.

His pre-contract agreement with Watford was spectacularly shot down by his agent Pierre-Henri Bovis at the end of April.
‘Nothing is fixed. We have a ‘so-called’ contract from January,’ he previously told the Athletic.
‘Now we are trying to resolve possible issues. The circumstances are very strange.

‘The communication of Watford doesn’t change anything for us.
‘In the UK, in France, Germany and Italy, we really don’t know about the solution or the club where Pape Gueye could go.’
Bovis became Gueye’s agent after the player cut ties with the representative who presided over the pre-contract signing with Watford.
The defensive midfielder is one of a number of promising talents to come through the Le Havre academy such as Paul Pogba, Riyad Mahrez and Benjamin Mendy.
