West Ham told Declan Rice is worth £80million in Harry Maguire comparison

West Ham United icon Frank McAvennie has told his former club Declan Rice is worth as much as Harry Maguire amid interest in the Irons star.

Rice played every single minute for West Ham in the Premier League last season and his efforts at the heart of midfield were vital to keeping his side in the division.

The 21-year-old's performances have seen him linked with moves to his former academy side Chelsea or to Manchester United.

The Red Devils are no stranger to a large bid for an England star and made Harry Maguire the most expensive defender in history by paying £80million to prise him from Leicester last summer.

McAvennie insists West Ham could demand a similar fee for Rice and he admits the versatile youngster will likely depart the London Stadium if such a bid is tabled.

The former Scotland striker told Football Insider : “You’re talking about £80million for Harry Maguire. I think that if he’s worth that then West Ham will be thinking that Declan’s worth somewhere between £60million to £80million.

"But listen, the owners will have a figure in mind, and I think it’s the same with every club, if someone matches that, they will sell him.

"Every club is a selling club now, especially with the pandemic and no money coming in from supporters. They’ll have a price, and if it’s met, he’ll be on his way – if he wants to, that is. It’s down to the player as well.”

West Ham are bargaining from a strong position with regards to Rice, as he is contracted in east London until 2024 with the option for a further year.

Rice – who has seven England caps – has made 109 appearances for the Irons and scored three times, while he wore the captain's armband last season on four occasions.
