England bowler James Anderson says it felt ‘amazing’ to reach 600 Test wickets.
The 38-year-old became the first fast bowler to reach the milestone as he took seven wickets during England’s draw with Pakistan in the third and final Test in Southampton.
‘It felt amazing to get 600 wickets,’ Anderson told Sky Sports. ‘I went to bad last night not expecting to bowl a ball so credit to the groundstaff, who have worked tirelessly.
‘Even if I didn’t get it today there are worse numbers to be stuck on for a few months [than 599] so I’d have been happy either way.
‘Alastair Cook took the catch [when I beat Botham] and with Root taking the catch here it does make it that bit more special.
‘We have shared lots of moments together and to share those moments with good friends makes it special.
‘Obviously Broady was out there as well and when I was out there for his 500th wicket earlier this summer it was incredibly special.’
