Anthony and Sam Freedman have pulled the pin on running Santa Ana Lane in the Yes Yes Yes Stakes and will head home to Victoria to target Group 1 Darley Classic at Flemington next week.
A predicted heavy track at Rosehill on Saturday was the catalyst for the stable’s decision to send the star sprinter home to their Pinecliff base on Wednesday.
Santa Ana Lane was a $6 second favourite in TAB.com.au’s all-in market for the Yes Yes Yes Stakes.
The Freedmans had chosen to stay in Sydney to chase the $750,000 bonus on offer for any The Everest runners that were to win the Yes Yes Yes Stakes.
Santa Ana Lane made up significant ground from last when finishing sixth in the $15 million The Everest.
The gun son of Lope De Vega will now chase his sixth career Group 1 in Melbourne and second victory in the Darley Classic after first winning the race back in 2018.
Jockey Ben Melham has already been booked to ride Santa Ana Lane in the 1200m feature staged on the final day of the Melbourne Cup Carnival.
Santa Ana Lane is rated a $15 chance to win the Darley Classic with The Everest runner up Bivouac the $3.50 favourite with bookies.
Meanwhile, Sydney trainers Peter and Paul Snowden have also indicated they will scratch star filly Dame Giselle if Saturday’s track is anything worse than a soft (7).
The final field for the Yes Yes Yes Stakes is out today.
