SuperCoach Racing 2020: Five top contenders for the Toorak Handicap

The Group 1 Toorak Handicap over 1,600m at Caulfield offers maximum points and with the favoured runners available at or under $250K there looks to be plenty of SuperCoach value too.

These are our five favoured picks in the race:

JUNIPAL

SuperCoach price: $200,000

Sure to be a very popular choice in Round 2. No knocks on recent form with the Maher/Eustace gelding winning his last two starts. The wet won’t worry him (8 starts 3-1-2 in soft/heavy) and while he doesn’t have a tremendous win rate (5 from 21) but he regularly finishes in the money (14 from 21) and $200K is a good price to for the favourite in a G1.

I AM SUPERMAN

SuperCoach price: $250,000

The Irish bred stallion didn’t really fire in his first Australian preparations but the Snowdens appear to have found the key to the horse now with two wins from two this time around including a last start win over 1,500m in the G2 Shannon Stakes. Does not want too much rain.

BUFFALO RIVER

SuperCoach price: $250,000

The Mike Moroney gelding has a tremendous strike rate with six wins and four placings from 11 starts. He also loves the wet with five wins and three placings from his eight starts in soft or heavy going. Class is a query though with no black type runs at all and when he stepped up to the Silver Eagle this time last year he finished 12th of 12 runners.

SUPERSTORM

SuperCoach price: $375,000

The West Australian star was not too far off the winner in the G1 Turnbull at his last start and I’m prepared to forgive his start before that when he drew the carpark in the Rupert Clarke. In previous preparation finished second over the course and distance when storming home in the All-Star Mile. Minimal wet form to go off, and is a bit expensive compared to others in the race.

CASCADIAN

SuperCoach price: $350,000

Charged home to finish fourth in the Group 1 Memsie at his second-last start looking like he was crying out for further and then finished a somewhat disappointing 11th in the G1 Rupert Clarke. Has fair if not outstanding wet form (12 starts 3-2-2) and has beaten Junipal over the mile so far from the worst however, prefer others at a cheaper SC price.
