Man Utd stance could see them miss out on Jadon Sancho transfer

Manchester United look unlikely to sign Dortmund's Jadon Sancho this summer after it was revealed they are not prepared to spend more than £50m on the England international.

Sancho's future is very much up in the air following the 20-year-old's sensational season in the Bundesliga in which he scored 17 goals and created 16 assists to help his side to a second place finish.

United have been one of the teams most strongly linked with his signature, along with the likes of Chelsea and Liverpool.

But according to Sky Sports club officials have said £50m is the maximum they will be able to afford this year, which is some way off the £100m Dortmund value their prize asset at.

Sancho himself is thought to be keen on a return to England, but acknowledges that given the current financial uncertainty as a result of the coronavirus crisis he may have no option but to remain in Germany for another season.

Indeed, Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke insisted earlier this week that the club would not allow Sancho to leave for anything less than their valuation, saying: "I don't think a club will pay the sum. There is also no coronavirus discount on him."

With his contract not due to expire until 2022, Dortmund have no immediate need to sell Sancho, and they will be more than happy to play the waiting game with regards to letting him go.

Meanwhile, it is also not yet clear where Birmingham wonderkid Jude Bellingham will end up, with both United and Dortmund linked with the midfielder.

With the player having turned 17 on Monday, he is now allowed to sign a professional contract, and will have the choice of either club.

United were the early front-runners for Bellingham, but it is now thought a move to Dortmund is more likely, as he and his family believe he will have more chance of immediate playing time in Germany.
